Womanist is to feminist as purple is to lavender” – Alice Walker

Are you tired of white feminism? Do you need to be apart of a feminist movement that understands what intersectionality means? This shirt is for you. Womanism is a feminist movement created by black women that addresses misogynoir and all other intersections.  Wearing this shirt is a reclaiming of power. Once a black woman truly loves herself and supports her sisters she can then don the high title: womanist

Womanism is a feminist term coined by Alice Walker. It is a reaction to the realization that “feminism” does not encompass the perspectives Black women. It is a feminism that is “stronger in color”, nearly identical to “Black Feminism”.

Africana Womanism, goes one step further in centering the discussion of equality on the experiences of the African Diaspora.

This design was intitially created as a final project for a senior seminar course that focused on the Scholarship of and by Women of Color. The fabric border around "Womanist" aims to celebrate the beautiful fabrics from the continent. The silhouette is symbolic of the specifications womanism has that feminism often neglects.
